Intro to Baking: An introduction to the basics of baking from how to cream butter and sugar to knowing when a cake is ready to be pulled from the oven.

A rich cake that is slightly lighter than pound cakes, but includes the four main ingredients - flour, butter, sugar, and eggs. All of our yellow and chocolate layer cakes are butter cakes.
>> Complete glossaryDecorating: This class will cover how to put a cake together using the simple, rustic feel we are known for at CakeLove, no fussy piping bags or fake flowers here. You will learn about buttercream and ganache as well as terminology and basic tools. Best of all you'll have the opportunity to put your new skills to the test, assembling your own 6" cake.
Small Sweets: Learn how to bake small hand-held items like cookies, muffins and scones.
Class Fee: $60 each or the series of 3 for $165.

Warren's Classes

Warren Brown, owner of CakeLove & Love Café, and host of Food Network's Sugar Rush will be teaching special classes in the student kitchen located at CakeLove in Silver Spring. All classes are demonstration with some student participation.
Ad Hoc Baking - Most of the time when Warren’s in the kitchen, he’s bakin’ up a storm and making a mess while he’s at it. This class is a tour through the mental process of a baker and the physical components of the bakery: dynamics of the ingredients and the mechanics of the equipment. Recipes demonstrated will include a review of traditional fundamentals of baking plus ad hoc ideas inspired by the class participants and seasonal flavors.
Cookbook Test Lab - Warren will demonstrate and test new recipes for his 2nd book in pursuit of 50 cakes for 50 states. He'll test drive recipes that need feedback and tweaking and introduce others that are good enough to eat!Class fee: $85

Cancellation Policy: Cancellations must be made 3 days prior to classes to get a full refund. Groups of 6 or more require 10 day notification. No refunds are made after the required time.
